The Bible Says...

By Bro. C. Eldon McNabb

The Bible says, "Do good to them that hate you." (Matt. 5:44) It also says, "If ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." (Mark 11:26) This "word of God" tell us that God requires us to be forgiving. Unless, of course, you have one of those "Bibles" from which those words are deliberately left out.

The Bible says, "And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, ?Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.?

"Then Jesus answered and said, ?O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.? And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

"Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, ?Why could not we cast him out?? And Jesus said unto them, ?Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.?" (Matt. 17:14-21)

I have emphasized verse 21, because your "Bible" may not contain it. If this verse is not in your "Bible," you might ask whether we are to infer that casting out devils or moving "this mountain" can be accomplished by only believing, without the personal consecration and self denial which prayer and fasting requires.

The Bible shows that the particular kind of devil which had control of the person in this passage is stronger than some devils and requires something more than just believing. Unless, of course, your copy has conveniently omitted verse 21. I think it is interesting that the same "Bibles" also leave out the phrase "in fastings" in 2 Cor. 6:5 and 2 Cor. 11:27

The Bible says, in Prov. 21:21, "He that followeth after righteousness?findeth? righteousness,?" (Prov 21:21) Unless, of course, someone has changed it to read "findeth? prosperity" there and in Prov. 8:18. It would seem that righteousness may be going the way of devotion. Especially in view of the fact that the same "Bibles" have left righteousness out altogether in such passages as Rom. 9:28, etc.

I personally would like to know everything which God has said to us by his word throughout the ages. Whatever profit there is in those words is very desirable to me. Besides, the Bible says, "Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." (Luke 4:4) Unless, of course...
