Current Events Always in Style I read something in the newspaper recently that I could hardly believe. Levi?s is closing 11 of their 22 plants in the U.S. and Canada because they?ve lost a large part of the market to other brands that produce the ultra-wide and baggy jeans that are so popular with young people today. As appalled at the latest fashion craze as I am, I hadn?t realized that the old American staple ? Levi?s ? was being threatened by their slow response to this mode of dress. LEVI?S! OUT OF STYLE? Impossible for most Americans over 20 years old to comprehend. Levi?s and other copy-cat jeans have been around for years and years. For decades it has been ?in? to wear this type of attire. This just goes to show you that no matter what fashion comes into style, or for how long it reigns, it is just a passing fad. Togas, robes, suits and ties, blue jeans: all forms of dress change. Some evolve and survive, others disappear. (Not always a bad thing, are you unfortunate enough to remember the 1980's brand Sergio Valente?) But there is an attire that never goes out of style. It is very flattering and becoming, no matter the decade, century...or even millennium. The Bible says, "Praise is comely for [looks good on] the upright." (Psa. 33:1) Again, it says, "Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely." (Psa. 147:1) If we want to please God, and, as the Church is the Bride of Christ, be attractive, we must find out what He likes and wear it. If one wants to make his or her spouse happy, one finds out what the other likes and wears it (be it a particular dress or sweater, etc.). God thinks that His people look really, really good when they are praising Him, so we need to make it our top priority to do so. We need to praise Him so much, that He looks down, and says, "Wow, My people look GREAT! They?re wearing My favorite outfit." God inhabits the praises of His people, because He is pleased with the style they have chosen. Let us be those worshippers that worship Him in Spirit and in Truth: with every fiber of our being and every ounce of our strength. It?s always in style. |
