There are many signs of our times. One of which is the automobile. Cars, together with the highway system, have utterly revolutionized the mode of land travel, which remained almost constant throughout the history of man. Bro. C. Eldon McNabb writes about this wonderful 20th century blessing.

My Merry Oldsmobile

By C. Eldon McNabb, Bible Guy

When the Twentieth Century was very young, there was a song with something like the above title. From then until now, Americans in particular have developed a fervent love affair with the automobile. It is indeed a wonderful, liberating invention. However, it reminds me of what God said in Heb. 3:4. "Every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God." God made automobiles, and He did so for His own important reasons.

If God had been in a hurry to "get the message out," He would have made cars before Jesus began preaching. So it must have been more than that. What then? We are told in one place that "All things were made by Him and for Him." Again it is written, "For His pleasure they are and were created."

We humans tend to think that all modern technology came into existence for our pleasure. Well, I certainly am enjoying living at this time and using all of the wonderful things which we have today. However, it is really not about us but is about God and His purposes. For thirty-six years now my wife, Zena, and I have driven cars with special writing on them which point out the fact that "cars are a sign of the soon coming of Jesus." That is really what it is all about. All through the Bible, God has prophesied of things and events which would be in evidence immediately preceding the return of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. One very important items on that list is the modern automobile.

About two-thousand and seven-hundred years ago, the Spirit of God moved upon the Prophet Nahum. In Nahum 2:1-4 Nahum told us the important prophecy which God gave to him. "He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily. The chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings."

Automobiles are here in direct fulfillment of this prophecy. The "broad ways" which he mentioned began to be built in 1948, and are today our wonderful Interstate Highway system. The chariots or carriages of old have become the wonderful cars which we enjoy today. The fact that they are here is one of the greatest signs that someone is here to make preparations for the return of our Lord.

God never changes. He sent John the Baptist to prepare for the coming of Jesus the Savior. Just as surely, God will cause special preparations to be made for the coming of Christ the King, and He will do it in this day of the automobile.
