JERUSALEM – A Tel Aviv university team issued its annual report on worldwide anti-Semitism this month, in which it reported a sharp increase in violent acts against Jews and Jewish property in recent months. The number of incidents rose sharply after the Sept. 11 attacks and jumped again after Israel began its offensive in the West Bank.
All told, there were 228 anti-Jewish acts in the world in 2001, 50 of which were major attacks involving weapons.
The report, which cited a recent spate of attacks in western Europe on Jewish schools, synagogues and cemeteries, didn’t give actual numbers of post-9/11 incidents, but indicated a significant increase since the September attacks on the U.S.
