The Bible said that it would be like this...

And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, ‘I see a company.’... And the watchman told, saying, ‘And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.’" (2 Ki. 9:17,20)

Jehu had just been anointed king over Israel by Elisha the prophet because Israel’s King Joram, the son of Ahab, and his mother Jezebel had caused Israel to worship idols and commit whoredom.

Consumed with zeal for God and righteousness, Jehu headed for Jezreel, where Joram was nursing his wounds after doing battle with the Syrians at Ramah. This was not, however, the first time that he was "hot behind the wheel." The watchman recognized the driving style immediately, and attributed it to Jehu.

Recently, "road rage" has become a topic of discussion in various news media. Like never before, drivers are taking a more aggressive stance on the daily commute. Sadly, these drivers are not consumed with the zeal of the Lord, but with envy and strife.

We, at The People of Truth, continue the time-honored tradition, started by Bishop Grady R. Kent in 1957, of marking cars as a sign of Jesus’ soon coming. On the doors, a scroll contains a quote from Nahum 2:1-4, "In the day of His preparation, the chariots shall rage in the streets. They shall justle one against another in the broad ways."

A number of things are involved in the fulfillment of this prophecy. First, there must be ‘chariots.’ In 1893, the Duryea brothers of Springfield, Massachusetts made the first horseless carriage. Their advancements with the automobile, together with Henry Ford’s assembly line and other 20th century technological achievements have produced a wonderful ease of transportation unparalleled in all of history.

Secondly, this ease of transportation would be impossible, regardless of the superiority of the automobile, without equally superior roadways. The "broad ways" of Nahum’s prophecy have been realized in the marvelous interstate highway system which President Eisenhower order built in the 1950's. Although national defense was one of the underlying reasons for its construction, the convenience and ease of travel nationwide has benefited every member of our society.

Finally, Nahum prophesied that these chariots would "rage in the streets" in the day of His preparation. The very emergence of the term "road rage" supports the notion that Nahum’s prophecy is being fulfilled NOW.

Upon reading my car’s proclamation that "Cars are a sign of the soon coming of Jesus," people often ask, ‘How can you say soon, when cars have been around for over 100 years?’ My reply has been, ‘When compared to the 2700 some-odd years since Nahum wrote the prophecy, 100 years isn’t so long.’ However, the recent materialization of the road rage phenomenon reveals that we truly are nearing the return of our Lord.

In John 2, when Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover, he found the moneychangers in the temple. Consumed with zeal, he made a scourge and drove them out. The disciples saw him fulfill the scripture, "The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up."

In like manner, let us get on fire for God – consumed with zeal for Him and His work: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
