Do you believe the Word of God? How do you know? Have you ever read the Scriptures from cover to cover?

In our fast-paced, wired world, we find time (or maybe make time) to cart the children to their various activities, watch television, go out to dinner, surf the Web, and go to the ball game. Somehow, though, in all of our running, we often fail to take (of make) the time to sit down with the Word of God and just read a few chapters. When tempted to focus on the emptiness of His belly, Jesus resisted Satan, saying, "It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Luke 4:4). Every word? Yes, my friends, every Word of God is vital to the life of the Christian.

How can you have your faith established, except you read God's word? As Paul said in Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Do you want to overcome temptation? King David told us how in Psalm 119:11, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." In fact, the whole of Psalm 119 is an ode to the Word of God. Can you say with David, "Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word. I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Lord, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee" (Psa. 119:161-168)?

I am not a big fan of New Year's resolutions, but I challenge every one of you who claims to be a born-again child of God to set your heart to read through the entire Bible this year. I am most sure that you will learn a great deal about the God, whom you serve, and about yourself as well.

Also, I challenge any of you who remain unsure of this whole "Christian" thing to read the Bible through. I know that God's Word will prove itself true, and make a believer out of you.

The Word of God is food for the spiritual man, and you owe it to yourself, and to God, to end the starvation he has been on, and get him the nourishment that God has provided from the abundance of His heart.

I say unto you, with Paul the Apostle, "Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ" (2 Thess. 3:1-5).
