Sino-Christian Activist held

Beijing - Officials detained an activist for the underground Christian church in China which had been investigating the destruction of a number of houses of worship.

Liu Fenggang, 43, was taken into custody Oct. 13 while visiting leaders of destroyed churches in Hangzhou. He had just been released from a previous 2-month detention.

Police searched Liu’s home later that week, confiscating two computers, an address book, cameras, and other items.

Liu’s wife, Bi Yuxia, was informed that her husband was to be charged with revealing state secrets. She was not presented, however, with the official notification required to secure a lawyer.
